Slowly, slowly turn away from me, touch my cheek before you leave

2004, Contemporary Art Centre, Vilnius

Slowly, slowly turn away from me, touch my cheek before you leave is a contribution to a group exhibition featuring nine other Dutch artists at the CAC in Vilnius. The work consists of a 42-meter-long partition made of transparent yellow PVC strips. Positioned between the two entrances of the exhibition space, the partition initially provides visitors with a tinted view of the exhibition.

This intervention is not immediately recognizable as an artwork; its artistic nature only becomes apparent upon reading the accompanying label. The strips, extending from ceiling to floor, narrow the exhibition space and create an intermediate zone. Every visitor passes through the work by physically walking through it, after which the strips slowly return to stillness.
